Hydrotherapy pool service

We have available a new hydrotherapy facility at St Cyril's Rehabilitation Unit. This is a purpose-built facility and is unrivalled across the region. The pool is also available for hire. Please see our downloads page for details.

Referrals for Pool sessions are subject to an initial out-patient assessment, to ensure safety and appropriateness of intervention and setting therapeutic goals and objectives. The Hydrotherapy suite includes a range of impressive facilities:

• 35m² Hydrotherapy pool with adjustable temperature up to 39°c, for therapeutic physiological effects during immersion, complete with two variable power jets for hydrodynamic treatment intervention. The water is accessible via graduated steps or sitting/supine lying hoist facilities. There is adjustable lighting with photophobic sensitivity and underwater, multi-coloured LED lighting. 1.2-1.4m depth.
• Hydrotherapy equipment to aid in therapy, based on buoyancy, resistance, hydrostatic and hydrodynamic principles.
• Several spacious and private dry and wet changing areas, with full shower facilities and disabled access. Separate shower with ceiling hoist for more dependent users.
• Separate relaxation/pick-up area with regulated air temperature for acclimatisation after pool session with refreshments available.
• St Cyril's Hydrotherapy facility meets the requirements for the following:
• Out-patient assessment and treatment with St Cyril's ATACP registered physiotherapist, using principles of immersion, buoyancy, hydrostatics and hydrodynamics.
• Aqua mobility class for independently mobile participants, with chronic pain and flexibility issues, or rehabilitating from injury.
• Independent use of the pool for outside groups/organisations with on-site pool attendant provided.
• Independent use of the pool for small groups/private physiotherapists, with on-site pool attendant provided.

A wide variety of musculoskeletal and neurological conditions can be treated by our physiotherapy team in the hydrotherapy pool, including:

Neurological Conditions

Stroke, Spinal cord injury, Acquired Brain Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinsons Disease, neurodegenerative disorders, neuromuscular disorders, general spasticity management, chronic pain management, chronic fatigue syndrome. Any other condition affecting the central nervous system can be treated, subject to an assessment.

Musculoskeletal Conditions

Osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, traumatic injury, fractures, muscle tears, tendon ruptures, chronic pain, post-surgical repair, repetitive muscle strain/ache. Any other condition affecting the musculoskeletal system, subject to an assessment.
