Complex Care Unit (CCU)BURLINGTON Low Secure ServiceSt Mary's also has a dedicated Complex care ward which is the newest addition to the service provision within our care pathway at St Mary's Hospital. The unit provides a comprehensive "whole person" care approach to individuals with complex neuropsychiatric disorders and care needs that may have an associated physical disability. We are able to care for people with long term conditions and accept that many patients referred to us will have enduring behavioural difficulties, physical needs such as tracheostomy care, PEG care and wheelchair users can all be accommodated within this service provision. The Ward caters for patients with complex needs, including individuals with limited levels of cognitive/independent functioning and extensive requirements with regards to issues such as physical care and support. Burlington can also cater to individuals with a high level of physical disability/physical care needs. Burlington Ward offers a flexible, adaptive treatment delivered in a low stimulus environment with a high staff to patient ratio with medical lead from a Consultant neuropsychiatrist with experience of working in secure settings. There is ready access to neuropsychology (for psychometric assessment if appropriate) and a neurorehabilitation physician, if and as required. Physical adaptation of the environment can be facilitated, which is based upon needs assessment carried out by our Occupational Therapist. There is access to speech and language therapy and physiotherapy, if and when required. |
