ABI Medium Secure Services

St Mary's provides medium secure beds for patients with Acquired Brain Injuries detained under the Mental Health Act. Patients are firstly admitted to the assessment ward following a detailed pre admission Multi Disciplinary assessment. Patients are referred from the courts, prison transfers, high secure hospitals and other hospitals.

All patients have an initial 12 week assessment of their cognitive, mental health and social needs. An enhanced Care Programme Approach (CPA) meeting is held following the initial assessment followed by regular 6 monthly CPA meetings. Following the CPA the Patient is then moved to the most appropriate ward within the hospital.

Patients are admitted to the ward following a comprehensive Multi Disciplinary assessment. Patients are admitted from the courts, prison transfers and referrals from other services, including secure hospitals.

Most patients will have significant forensic histories, complex needs and pose a significant risk if managed in conditions of less security at the point of referral. All patients are subject to a 12 week assessment period, which provides a detailed assessment of mental health and social needs; communication assessment; full risk management assessment; rehabilitation profile and detailed care plan for future interventions. An enhanced CPA meeting is held following the initial assessment period to discuss and plan the patient's future care.
