New Challenging Behaviour Service Open Day

We are delighted to announce the official opening of The Westminster Suite, the new dedicated Challenging Behaviour Service at St Cyril's Rehabilitation Unit, Countess of Chester Health Park, Liverpool Road, Chester CH2 1HJ on Monday 5th December 2011 from 11.00am to 4.00pm. You will have the opportunity to view our purpose built unit and learn about our service whilst receiving detailed clinical presentations from our team and guest speaker.

Guest Speakers Biography

The Mask of Huntington's Disease. Presented by guest speaker. Dr George El-Nimr, Consultant Neuropsychiatrist MBChB, MSc, MRCPsch, MSc, CertMedEd.

Having completed his basic and higher training in North Staffordshire, Dr El-Nimr was appointed Consultant Neuropsychiatrist in 2003. In the context of a more generic Neuropsychiatric service, Dr El-Nimr runs a holistic service for Huntington's disease (HD). He looks after pre-symptomatic abnormal gene carriers and HD patients at different clinical settings including inpatients, outpatient, day services and care homes. Dr El-Nimr supports training in relation to HD at Keele and Birmingham Universities and has completed a number of award winning audits and service evaluation projects on HD that were presented both nationally and internationally.

His HD service won the Improving Experience; Chairman's Award in 2009 and later went on to publish HD treatment guides for GPs and HD literature for care givers. Whilst facilitating the development of a support forum that was advertised earlier this year for young adults with HD in the family. Dr El-Nimr went on to publish a joint paper with specific careers that outlines the service model he developed. He also created a DVD that outlines the main aspects of HD and related service issues which is currently available online. Contributing to a national training DVD that was organised by the HD Association, Dr El-Nimr has also organised a national conference on HD and completed an online module on HD with a colleague for the Royal College of Psychiatrists. Dr El-Nimr has participated in national and international research initiatives in relation to HD, he is an active member of the European Huntington's Disease Network (EHDN) and a number of its working groups. His HD unit is recognised by the EHDN for research purposes. His areas of interest include HD service developments and Neuropsychiatric manifestations of HD.
