Governance

Governance has been defined as:

"A framework through which organisations are accountable for continuously improving the quality of their services and safeguarding high standards of care by creating an environment in which excellence in clinical care will flourish" (A First Class Service, Department of Health, 1998)

St George Healthcare Group hospitals are registered with the Care Quality Commission who inspect and regulate the care we offer. The regulatory framework is based upon the department of health document ‘Standards for Better Health (2006) and the seven domains identified within this document:

  • Safety
  • Clinical and Cost Effectiveness
  • Governance
  • Patient Focus
  • Accessible and Responsive Care
  • Care Environment and Amenities
  • Public Health

The St George Health Care Governance Framework is built around these seven domains and these primary areas of governance are managed by smaller subgroups and local committees. Integral to this is the belief that we should not lose our way through a network of self perpetuating meetings and committees, rather that the governance process be dynamic reflecting the needs of the service users, their families and the organisation which provides ongoing care.

St George Healthcare Group Ltd is committed to manage patient care in a way that avoids unnecessary bureaucracy, makes the best use of clinicians' time, and recognises the relationship between the patient and St George Healthcare Group Ltd, as a critical success factor in its business.
